How wealth influences women’s family planning
To what extent does wealth influence key life decisions such as cohabitation or marriage? A recent analysis of data from the “Leben in Deutschland” study reveals that home ownership in particular is a decisive factor in family planning for people in Germany.
For women, it is clear that, if they own a house or apartment, they are way more likely to move in with their partner and get married. This effect isn’t as strong when it comes to shared home ownership. This shows that women see their own financial independence as key to starting a family.
